E-Week 2011 Wrap Up

The month of February calls for romance. But here in our campus, Entrepreneurial programs were waiving in the air. Belts of ideas and innovativeness were well fastened; and tie knots that were perfectly gripped kept out confidence held strong. The NEN E-Week 2011 was to begin. It was inaugurated by a welcome ceremony, by taking the oath, followed by performance of skits by our students. The lighting of lamp at inauguration appeared as if it hoisted our fire of ‘We Can, We Will’ in us.

The week started with a giant Walkathon. Our energetic students walked interacting with residents of local colonies with slogans of ‘We Can, We Will’. On road skits by our students attracted huge attention and local residents couldn’t keep themselves away from our energy; they happily interacted with us and supported in our walkathon. We were reaching to lot of masses through our presence on air as well. Courtesy goes to RED FM, for being part of us all the way.

Events and programs throughout the week were well structured and designed purposely to bring out the innovative ideas from our students. Extempores, elocutions and debates on various topics concerned with present state of India, and steps that could be opted to bring about a significant change in near future were well stressed upon. Events like India@horizon and Ideas@work made students ponder with such topics and encouraged them to find appropriate steps that need to be taken.

Our students not only shared their entrepreneurship ideas on events like Ideas@work and Business Plans but also introduced themselves with their artistic talents. Their artistic talents were at show with proud tag of their business ideas on events like Rangoli, Shape it Up, Movie making and Master Chef events. Winners were decided for respective events later, through evaluation based on their performance.

Along with engagements with available opportunities on events to prove themselves, students were also immensely involved on Workshops and Seminars to probe for the opportunities in future. The gaming workshop was held by Mr Arijit Bhattacharya, founder of Virtual Infocom. He discussed with us various opportunities already available in this field, and about the prospects that would be having great demand in future. A technical seminar with brushed up touches of entrepreneurial talks by him, proved really fruitful for our students.
The world sees the future, showcasing the past memories in sacks. This holds so true for technology. Android architecture and its applications have powered most of the gadgets around us now. Mr. Soumyakanti Bhattacharya, Professor of Computer Science, BCET, held this seminar and discussed with us about the Android, and its applications. Cloud Computing is emerging as a powerful tool in field of computer science. An Experience sharing session by Sreyasi Nag Chawdhury, then a 3rd year Computer Science and Engineering student of BCET, was held. She discussed her work on Security in Cloud Computing, pointing out its importance for us today.

Microsoft members were also with us on their seminar, where they answered to innumerable queries from our students and showed paths to employment in their firm.

‘We don’t just have ideas, we know how to technically develop them’, out students should this well. They showed their technically employed models that aimed to bring about a change in our current scenario. The model display event attracted several minds towards itself and our students proved themselves to be the best with their project ideas. The micro tidal power plant; which was for generating electricity at cheapest rate was exhibited. It was capable of generating several megawatt of electricity. Other prominent project’s model included generation of electricity using geothermal energy. Measurement of height of any structure by the use of Laser was another added attraction at the exhibition of entrepreneur cum technology based event.

The overall aims of E-week were very well met with support of our coordinators, participants and local residents. We owe thanks to them for their support. Though it was our flag that was hoisted at the very first position continuously for three years, 2008-2010; this year we landed being the first runner up in the list of colleges. This has added flames in our veins and we will be up to get back the first ranking and that is our niche.
