E-Week 2010 Wrap Up

A year passed away, and it was 2010. We were crowned as the winner of the NEN E-Week last year, for our exemplary efforts and innovative ideas. Inspired by this landmark and hence following the trail we made in the past two years, we again dived into the ocean of hard-work and dedication. The inauguration ceremony marked the beginning of E-week, which was more like a festival to us than a regular event, where young minds with sprouting ideas are celebrated. The month of February, with the auditorium packed with students (the potent entrepreneurs of the future), and the dignitaries, the inauguration ceremony was a blast which included oath taking ceremony, skit, lamp lightening and a lot more. Hence-forth we moved on with a series of events for the next seven days, which later were proved to be remarkable.

To give it a blow, we then moved on to the walkathon in the cold morning of the month with hundreds of students walking together. The greatest attraction was the street play which pulled in the public attention. We left the air echoing with the slogan- “We can, we will”. This grand event was followed by a series of inspiring events which were competitive as well as loaded with fun and active participation by the students. A presentation on the topic-‘Production of Hydrogen gas and developing an effective method for its storage’ proposed the idea of making use of the ‘Fuel of the future’ for business as well as humanitarian cause.

Next to it we had –PERCEPTION, an event of Power-point presentation on- ‘Biotechnological aspects and environmental hazards’ included topics like global warming, nano-bots etc. The students were overwhelmed by the presence of jury members like- Dr. Subhrata Trivedi, India’s top scientist on DNA bar coding and Dr. S.K.T. Nasar, ex HOD, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vidyalaya. Also, Dr. Latha Rangan , faculty member from IIT Guwahati, talked on the modules which included plant tissue culture, transient plant variety etc. The technical model display acted as an icing on the cake of the events as it included innovative models by the students as-Pendulum type torque-multiplying motor, mini solar power unit, harnessing solar energy using Fresnel lens and sun tracking device, mini hydroelectric power generation through water harvesting and solar tracker heater etc.

The B. Pharma students promoted herbal medicines. Stalls were set up selling the medicines prepared by the students itself which gave them an early entrepreneurial experience. Apart from these we also had educational and interactive sessions like ‘Imagining India’; an event conducted which displayed nine pictures with nine teams resulting into a bunch of brilliant ideas. We also had quizzes, extempore and aptitude tests in the queue of events. The enthusiasm and the energy of the participants were simply incredible. But the event which took away the hearts and minds of many was the Multiplayer gaming zone with heart throb games of the youngsters like NFS Most Wanted and FIFA 09. The event taught the students of the opportunity of making money in the field of gaming.

The E-week was glorified by the presence of immensely dignified personalities including Mr. Prasenjit Chowdhury, AGM, SIDBI; CMERI expert Mr. A.K. Shaw who observed and appreciated various creative technical models. Mr. C.S. Pradip Kumar(CEO Vedic Synergy Biotechnology Limited.) talked of tissue-culture, floriculture and other socially and economically sustainable business models. They were impressed to the extent that they promised to visit us again. The artistic instincts of the students also got expression in the ‘Exhibition cum sale’ where more than hundred submissions of painting, collage and cartoons were done. Students also sold and bought artistic products designed by them.

Though it was the time for the end of the event, the zeal and passion of the young hearts never went down. We sowed the hard-work and reaped the crop of victory. Again we got the crowned first ranking repeating the history. The effort of each one made the event successful and provided us with an incredible opportunity to learn more and gave us wide exposure in the field of entrepreneurship. And then we decided to again wait for a year to bid welcome to the festive event named, NEN E-Week.
